Projects I am currently working on.
At this present moment I am experimenting with a mobile phone speaker. I have used Silky Oak wood and designed two different shapes. I am yet to cut in the slot for the phone to sit in. The next step will be to video the results and then post them up on my site. I have found the experiment an exciting one. I will be making quite a few of them out of different woods with slightly different depths and widths according to the sound qualities of the woods. All good things come to those who are patient…..

The Characteristics and Charm of the Australian Timbers I love
Huon Pine.
This beautiful timber can only be found in the wet temperate forests of South West Tasmania. These Trees have been found to be as old as 2500 years and have a extreme slow growth rate. Unfortunately the trees are on the endangered list. Finally they are now illegal to be logged. They colours vary from a rich golden hue to a reddish brown or yellow. Once the dwindling stocks are gone Huon Pine will no longer be available.

King Billy Pine
The rarest wood in Tasmania and possibly the world. The trees themselves are nothing special to look at. The wood inside though is a different story. Known to be as old as 2000 years, impervious to rot and only found in the highlands of Tasmania. All logging has now stopped and fire has destroyed most of these wonderful trees.. The wood itself is very soft and easy to bruise. It has a very tight grain and a beautiful reddish colour. The soundboard qualities of this wood make it a musicians delight and I feel extremely privileged to have a small sample of this in stock. Once my stock is gone I no longer will be able to restock.
